C’était en 1984, le Père Laurent Fabre avec son Conseil cherchait un lieu de fondation de la Communauté en terre d’Afrique. Il habitait alors dans le foyer des étudiants de la rue Madame à Paris et avait entendu dire que son ami jésuite, Mgr Ernest Kombo, venait d’être nommé évêque du diocèse de Nkayi en République du Congo. Il demanda à sa secrétaire, Elisabeth Auliac, de chercher le numéro de téléphone de ce futur évêque qui se trouvait alors dans une communauté jésuite à Rome. Il y avait sur son bureau de la rue Madame deux postes de téléphone. Au moment où Elisabeth commence à communiquer (en disant « Pronto », comme il se doit) avec un des téléphones, voici, que le deuxième téléphone se met à sonner : c’était Mgr Ernest Kombo, lui aussi, qui essayait, au même instant, de joindre le Père Laurent Fabre !
