Le Chemin Neuf est présent à Aix depuis le 1er septembre 2014 mais il est vrai que l’arrivée en paroisse lui donne une plus grande visibilité dans le diocèse. C’est en 2017 que l’archevêque d’Aix et Arles, Mgr Christophe Dufour, sollicite la Communauté du Chemin Neuf pour prendre la responsabilité pastorale d’une paroisse à Aix, mais il n’obtiendra gain de cause qu’au dernier trimestre 2020 après une relance en 2019 qui a conduit la Communauté dans un processus de discernement. Il est alors convenu que le Chemin Neuf animera à partir du 1er septembre 2021 l’Unité Pastorale Saint Eugène de Mazenod, constituée des paroisses Saint Paul et Saint François d’Assise.
